Activision has lost its licence to thrill. The popular games company no longer hold the licencing rights to create new James Bond video games. Electronic Arts sold the rights to Activision in 2006 and the deal would run through until 2014. Rumours started after James Bond video games were promptly taken off the shelves in the New Year and on the internet.
007 LEGENDS which was released by Activision last year received poor reviews and sales, causing the developer Eurocom to go bankrupt. 007: BLOOD STONE also went down the same track when it was released in 2010 after high expectations. The only truly successful Bond title to come out of Activision was the Goldeneye 007 game for the Wii (and later released as Goldeneye 007 Reloaded for the PS3 and X-Box 360). Since the James Bond films are co-produced by Sony, it wouldn't be surprising if Sony Computer Entertainment took over the rights. Here is a look at some of the 007 titles released by Activision over the years... The definitive James Bond feature documentary EVERYTHING OR NOTHING: THE UNTOLD STORY OF 007 will be released on DVD in the UK on 28th January. Directed by Stevan Riley (Fires in Babylon) and produced by John Battsek (Searching for Sugar Man, The Imposter) and Simon Chinn (Man on Wire, Searching for Sugar Man) EVERYTHING OR NOTHING tells the unique story of three men with a shared dream; producers Albert R. Broccoli, Harry Saltzman and author Ian Fleming. Riley chronicles the real-life battles and threats facing the franchise through five decades and 23 films of the most iconic fictional hero of modern times. The documentary focuses not only on Bond’s historical journey but also the emotional paths of Broccoli, Fleming, Saltzman and their respective families. The film includes exclusive interviews with Bond actors George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig as well as unprecedented access to EON Productions’ extensive archive of behind the scenes material. It was announced today that SKYFALL, the 23rd James Bond adventure, has surpassed $1 billion at the worldwide box office. SKYFALL is the most successful Bond film of all time, the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK, the first film to pass £100 million at the UK box office and it is also the most successful film at the worldwide box office in Sony Pictures history.
Skyfall took in $4.6 million this weekend in North America for a cumulative to date of $289.6 million. Overseas, the film grossed $10.3 million for an international total to date of $710.6 million and a worldwide cumulative exceeding $1 billion and growing. It has just been announced that a two-dimensional steel statue of Ian Fleming will be constructed and will appear on Dover's Promenade. Dover, England has been best known in the Bond series as one of the key locations from the novel "Moonraker". Ian Fleming lived in St Margaret's Bay. Fleming has been selected as a local hero and will be the third person to have a statue of himself in the area.
The first was Dame Vera Lynn, English singer-songwriter and actress who sang the wartime classic 'The White Cliffs of Dover'. The second was local hero Jamie Clark, who brought the Olympic Torch into Dover, and was our town's first Torchbearer on 18 July in celebration of London 2012. The third, Ian Fleming, was selected by public vote. 007's creator beat Cuthbert Ottaway, Ian Fleming, Henry II and James I with 45% of the tally. The Broadcast Film Critics Association today announced the nominations for the 18th annual Critics Choice Movie Awards.
