It has just been announced that a two-dimensional steel statue of Ian Fleming will be constructed and will appear on Dover's Promenade. Dover, England has been best known in the Bond series as one of the key locations from the novel "Moonraker". Ian Fleming lived in St Margaret's Bay. Fleming has been selected as a local hero and will be the third person to have a statue of himself in the area.
The first was Dame Vera Lynn, English singer-songwriter and actress who sang the wartime classic 'The White Cliffs of Dover'. The second was local hero Jamie Clark, who brought the Olympic Torch into Dover, and was our town's first Torchbearer on 18 July in celebration of London 2012. The third, Ian Fleming, was selected by public vote. 007's creator beat Cuthbert Ottaway, Ian Fleming, Henry II and James I with 45% of the tally. Comments are closed.
