On this day in 1909, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, the man who would go on to bring James Bond to a worldwide cinematic audience, was born. Having started from humble beginnings on the farmlands of Long Island, Cubby’s extraordinary journey to become one of Hollywood’s best-loved producers is lovingly detailed in his autobiography. Covering a lifetime of inspirational and often humorous stories, from his relationships with Howard Hughes, Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck, to finding an actor to play the first Bond, The Autobiography of Cubby Broccoli: The Man Who Brought James Bond 007 To The Screen is now updated as an eBook from EON Productions, with new introductions from Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. ‘The Autobiography of Cubby Broccoli: The Man Who Brought James Bond 007 To The Screen’, by the late Albert R Broccoli and Donald Zec, is available from leading eBook retailers, priced at £4.99/$7.70. EON Productions will donate all of the income from the sales of this eBook to Cancer Research UK Editors from media outlets around the world flew in to Monaco yesterday for the launch of the new 007 fragrance, Ocean Royale. The event, held at the exclusive Chateau Eza high in the hills above the principality was hosted by Caterina Murino who played Solange in CASINO ROYALE and fragrance expert Will Andrews. Ocean Royale "has an invigorating freshness with an underpinning of masculine woods," said Andrews. "It is the essence of Bond's masculine side".
Caterina Murino talked of her time as a Bond actress and the effect it had on her life: "It gave me the opportunity to discover the world," she said. "I was in Bond for two minutes and it completely changed my life." Ocean Royale is currently available at Harrods At an MGM investor conference call, the big cat announced a great influx of profits thanks to Bond and "The Hobbit" which both grossed over $1b at the box office.
Said CEO Gary Barber: "We are currently developing the screenplay and working with our partners. We look forward to developing the script soon and signing a director. We are hoping within the next 3 years it will be released." Some media outlets took this to mean that Bond would be back in late 2014, but a Summer 2015 release might be more realistic, and still consistent with the slate that Barber suggested. "It has been a very difficult decision not to accept Michael and Barbara's very generous offer to direct the next Bond movie, directing SKYFALL was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theatre and other commitments, including productions of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and King Lear, that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond." Bond's next director has yet to be decided, but producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli had nothing but praise for Mendes: "We thoroughly enjoyed working with Sam. He directed our most successful Bond movie ever, SKYFALL. We would have loved to have made the next film with him but completely respect his decision to focus on other projects and hope to have the opportunity to collaborate with him again."
Today, a train named after Bond film SKYFALL was unveiled at King’s Cross Station. It’s the first time a film has permanently given its name to a train. The East Coast London to Edinburgh service, train number 91007, has been renamed SKYFALL with each of its eleven carriages wrapped in SKYFALL artwork. Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, actress Naomie Harris (Eve Moneypenny) and writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade were on the train’s maiden journey which departed platform 007 at King’s Cross at 8.33am. You can follow the train’s progress on Twitter. #SKYFALLTRAIN Visit skyfalllodge.com to learn about how the "Skyfall" team designed and constructed the huge set, browse concept artwork and photographs from the production and watch video from the crew. There is also a snippet of Sam Mendes' commentary track about the location. If you can find the hidden door to the Priest hole, you'll unlock a stunt bootcamp videoblog. Aston Martin fans will no doubt love the set of behind the scenes photographs and 360 degree virtual 3D model.
"Skyfall" is available on Blu-Ray and DVD in the USA & Canada now, and will be launched in the UK on February 18th, 2013. A fleet of SKYFALL themed Aston Martins will be on hand for New York Fashion Week, providing fans and fashion press with complimentary transportation around Manhattan throughout the event. Wrapped in 007 livery, the cars’ on-board entertainment systems will also screen special features from the Blu-ray release of SKYFALL, the most successful British film of all time.
New York Fashion Week runs from Monday 11th Feb through to Thursday 14th Feb. SKYFALL is released on Blu-ray and DVD in the US from February 12th and February 18th in the UK. Bond fans in the US can now download or stream SKYFALL in Digital HD.

"I'm very, very sorry that nothing has been recognised, that's a great pity. I thought Sam Mendes directed it absolutely beautifully. It was a terrific film. I think it's good luck if you get an Oscar nomination and bad luck if you don't." Skyfall, however, received nominations in five other categories and a 50th Anniversary celebration will be held at the awards ceremony this month.
Congratulations to SKYFALL’s Production Designer Dennis Gassner who won the Art Director’s Guild Award for contemporary film last night in LA at the 17th Annual Excellence In Production Design Awards for 2012. Earlier that evening Gassner joined Bond production luminaries Ken Adam, Peter Lamont, and Allan Cameron who were honoured with the guild’s Cinematic Imagery Award, recognising the longest-running franchise in film history for its visionary and innovative design.
