Last year, ITV lost the rights to show the James Bond films on Saturday afternoons; a tradition it held for many years and invited a new generation of fans to the fold. Thankfully, ITV have reacquired the rights and 007 will be back on UK television in the new year...
Ralph Fiennes confirmed earlier this week that he will be returning in "Bond 24". In "Skyfall" he was introduced as Gareth Mallory. But those who have seen the film know that his character takes over as "M" the MI6 Chief; a role previously filled by Dame Judi Dench. "I think everyone knows that, I don't think that's particularly a secret. I'm looking forward to it very much." Ralph Fiennes on playing M in "Bond 24" The new James Bond continuation novel by William Boyd will be hitting stores on 6th September. Amazon has released the official description of the novel, which can be seen below... It's 1969, and, having just celebrated his forty-fifth birthday, James Bond—British special agent 007—is summoned to headquarters to receive an unusual assignment. Zanzarim, a troubled West African nation, is being ravaged by a bitter civil war, and M directs Bond to quash the rebels threatening the established regime. Bond's arrival in Africa marks the start of a feverish mission to discover the forces behind this brutal war—and he soon realizes the situation is far from straightforward. Piece by piece, Bond uncovers the real cause of the violence in Zanzarim, revealing a twisting conspiracy that extends further than he ever imagined. Moving from rebel battlefields in West Africa to the closed doors of intelligence offices in London and Washington, this novel is at once a gripping thriller, a tensely plotted story full of memorable characters and breathtaking twists, and a masterful study of power and how it is wielded—a brilliant addition to the James Bond canon. The third instalment to the dangerously sophisticated James Bond 007 fragrance line, Quantum, comprises a truly masculine and invigorating array of ingredients that bring to life Bond’s sense of cool under pressure. Find experience and reassurance in the top notes with Bond’s controlled confidence in the base notes - an invincible combination when the stakes are high.
Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, EON Productions; Gary Barber, Chairman & CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer; Michael Lynton, CEO, Sony Entertainment, Inc, and Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that Daniel Craig will once again return as the legendary British secret agent in the 24th James Bond film and Sam Mendes will also return to direct the screenplay written by John Logan. The film is set for release in the UK on October 23, 2015 and in the US on November 6, 2015.
SKYFALL the 23rd James Bond film, took in $1.1 billion worldwide and set a new mark as the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK; it was the best-selling Bond film on DVD/Blu-ray and was the most critically acclaimed film in the history of the longest-running film franchise. Commenting on the announcement, Wilson and Broccoli said, “Following the extraordinary success of SKYFALL, we’re really excited to be working once again with Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and John Logan.” “I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24. I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time,” said Mendes. Barber added, “We are thrilled to reunite the extraordinary talents of director Sam Mendes with our star Daniel Craig for the next great Bond adventure.” He added, “As evidenced by the phenomenal success of our last collaboration with EON Productions and Sony, the incredible legacy of this 51-year-old franchise continues to amaze.” Pascal and Lynton said, “It’s a privilege to work on the Bond films. EON, John Logan and Sam Mendes have come up with an extraordinary follow up to SKYFALL and we, along with our partners at MGM, can’t wait to share this new chapter with audiences all over the world.” Skyfall director Sam Mendes has recently been back in talks with the Bond producers for the next 007 film. But after three interviews, he reveals that he is still considering it. He told the BBC... "Well, I'm in discussions about it, but I've said to everyone involved that I'd like to open Charlie and the Chocolate Factory first before making any kind of final decisions. They've been very understanding about that. Frankly, I've had no time to talk about it let alone think about it because this has been a full time job for the last six months. It'll be nice to have some spare time again to think about things other than chocolate, children and Willy Wonka." In another interview with the Daily Telegraph, he told them... "I’ve said I’ll discuss the possibility of doing the next one. There are discussions ongoing but no decision will be made until after I’ve opened the show." And finally, to HeyUGuys... "In answer to the question you’re going to ask, I don’t know yet. I’m in discussion over the ‘B’ word and I won’t make any decision until this is open. It’s taken a long time to get this open and this has been my focus." In other news, Penelope Cruz has officially announced that has not been approached by the producers and doesn't wish to take part in Bond 24. Plus, Ben Whishaw turns down an opportunity to fulfillthe role of 'Doctor Who' in the series of the same name for fear of missing out on playing 'Q' in the next film.
