German film director Roland Emmerich has expressed his desire to direct a Bond film in the future. Known for his work on "2012" and "Independence Day", Emmerich was interviewed by Yahoo movies and said that he liked the new direction Mendes took with "Skyfall" and would like to give it a go. "Especially after the last one [Skyfall], because they've finally had the guts to go in different moods. I think a classic Bond film, no. But if they would let me do my Bond film the same way they let English director Sam Mendes do his Bond film, then that'd be interesting. Have a word with Barbara Broccoli when you get back." Emmerich was once considered to direct "Die Another Day" back in 2002 but he lost out to Lee Tamahori. Emmerich is spending his time on the sequel to "Independene Day", and not to mention Sam Mendes has already signed on to direct "Bond 24" in 2015.
For many, "Die Another Day" was considered a flop. It included excessive CGI throughout. However, director Lee Tamahori and producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli shed some light on the subject.
“The first hour is good, then it goes a bit cartoon-y. But at the start, Brosnan is captured by the North Koreans, tortured, then traded for an enemy agent. M is very tough [with Bond] and he has to escape. They question whether Bond has cracked and so on. It is reasonably similar material to the later ones but it’s the way it’s done [by the director].” Neal Purvis “I think you can’t regret anything, because what you do affects your next step,” said Barbara Broccoli. “By the way, those are now part of the military”, added Michael G. Wilson. “It’s true,” replied Broccoli. “That’s where we got the idea from when we were making the film. It was the cutting edge of technology.” Neal Purvis and Robert Wade joked that the invisible Aston Martin Vanquish was in every James Bond movie, you just couldn't see it. They also mentioned that they originally envisioned the car being camouflaged into the background setting, but Lee Tamahori decided to take it one step further. |
