On this day in 1909, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, the man who would go on to bring James Bond to a worldwide cinematic audience, was born. Having started from humble beginnings on the farmlands of Long Island, Cubby’s extraordinary journey to become one of Hollywood’s best-loved producers is lovingly detailed in his autobiography. Covering a lifetime of inspirational and often humorous stories, from his relationships with Howard Hughes, Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck, to finding an actor to play the first Bond, The Autobiography of Cubby Broccoli: The Man Who Brought James Bond 007 To The Screen is now updated as an eBook from EON Productions, with new introductions from Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. ‘The Autobiography of Cubby Broccoli: The Man Who Brought James Bond 007 To The Screen’, by the late Albert R Broccoli and Donald Zec, is available from leading eBook retailers, priced at £4.99/$7.70. EON Productions will donate all of the income from the sales of this eBook to Cancer Research UK At an MGM investor conference call, the big cat announced a great influx of profits thanks to Bond and "The Hobbit" which both grossed over $1b at the box office.
Said CEO Gary Barber: "We are currently developing the screenplay and working with our partners. We look forward to developing the script soon and signing a director. We are hoping within the next 3 years it will be released." Some media outlets took this to mean that Bond would be back in late 2014, but a Summer 2015 release might be more realistic, and still consistent with the slate that Barber suggested. "It has been a very difficult decision not to accept Michael and Barbara's very generous offer to direct the next Bond movie, directing SKYFALL was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theatre and other commitments, including productions of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and King Lear, that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond." Bond's next director has yet to be decided, but producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli had nothing but praise for Mendes: "We thoroughly enjoyed working with Sam. He directed our most successful Bond movie ever, SKYFALL. We would have loved to have made the next film with him but completely respect his decision to focus on other projects and hope to have the opportunity to collaborate with him again."
Today, a train named after Bond film SKYFALL was unveiled at King’s Cross Station. It’s the first time a film has permanently given its name to a train. The East Coast London to Edinburgh service, train number 91007, has been renamed SKYFALL with each of its eleven carriages wrapped in SKYFALL artwork. Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, actress Naomie Harris (Eve Moneypenny) and writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade were on the train’s maiden journey which departed platform 007 at King’s Cross at 8.33am. You can follow the train’s progress on Twitter. #SKYFALLTRAIN To set rumours to rest, it has been confirmed by Gregg Wilson (Associate Producer) that BOND 24 and BOND 25 will not be shot back-to-back like tabloids believe. Gregg also states that John Logan hasn't produced a draft for the producers yet but has been working on one late last year, which he says is "no where near" the treatment stage for BOND 24. Addidionally, Sam Mendes told the press at the BAFTA's last week that he would return to helm BOND 24 if the producers want him. "I've had a great time, it's been a huge learning curve and we would want to make a better movie next time around, and if we thought we could do that they might let me have another go again." In another interview, the producers made it clear that they really do want him back for the next film. However, a crisis looms and could possibly delay BOND 24 for a further year. Sam Mendes is already committed to produce a musical version of 'Charlie And The Chocolate Factory' which opens on 18th May, whilst John Logan has joined to direct a film called 'King Lear' at the National Theatre which opens in January 2014. The producers have decided to wait for Mendes and Logan to finish their projects before they even think about starting BOND 24. Due to this delay, we could now expect to see BOND 24 hit cinemas in the summer of 2015 (or late 2015 if production is delayed further) It is already confirmed that Daniel Craig will return as James Bond in this film (so long as he doesn't turn it down at the last minute) and will be joined by Ralph Fiennes as 'M', Naomi Harris as 'Miss Moneypenny' and Ben Whishaw as 'Q'. The new MI6 team is contracted to stay until Daniel Craig's departure in BOND 25. However, the producers may decide to keep them for future films.
