In late October, Ralph Fiennes confirmed that he will be returning in "Bond 24" as the new M. And now, Naomi Harris has also confirmed that she will be reappearing as Miss Moneypenny in the next film, stating that the producers are trying to "reinvent and revamp" the character.
Ralph Fiennes, Naomi Harris and Ben Whishaw were all optioned for "Bond 24" and "Bond 25" in their respective roles until Daniel Craig's current contract ends. Naomi Harris spoke about how she was cast and the future of Moneypenny in an interview with the NY Daily News [...] Charlie's Angels and Kill Bill actress Lucy Liu has been placed on the rumour list for "Bond 24" alongside Daniel Craig. The 44 year old Chinese actress will hold the record for the oldest Bond girl in the series' history. Liu has been linked to the Bond films several times before. The first was during the period of darkness surrounding the unmade Timothy Dalton film, then later she was touted for the role of Mi Wai in Tomorrow Never Dies before losing out to Michelle Yeoh. Will she finally get her Bond debut? A source told MediaMass... “The producers have tried to get Lucy before, but she has never been available because of other commitments, the discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now." Ralph Fiennes confirmed earlier this week that he will be returning in "Bond 24". In "Skyfall" he was introduced as Gareth Mallory. But those who have seen the film know that his character takes over as "M" the MI6 Chief; a role previously filled by Dame Judi Dench. "I think everyone knows that, I don't think that's particularly a secret. I'm looking forward to it very much." Ralph Fiennes on playing M in "Bond 24" When Barbara Broccoli and John Logan attended the Institute of Directors event in Dublin last week they were asked by fans whether Ireland would be considered for a possible location inthe next James Bond movie.
Of course, what would you say if you were surrounded by thousands of Irish Bond fans? Barbara replied that if John Logan includes Ireland in the script “we’ll come here. Ireland is gorgeous. I’d love to come here and make a Bond film.” An Ireland paper read "Hopes rise next James Bond film will be shot in Ireland" as its headline. John Logan is currently at the long process of writing the script for BOND 24 which is not due for release until fall 2015. According to the Daily Mail (a reliable Bond news resource), Naomi Harris will play an even larger part in BOND 24 (2015). An extract from the report can be seen below. Director Sam Mendes, Craig, and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are all big fans of Naomie’s and don’t want her to be too desk-bound, as other Moneypennys have been. Since the report, Bond fans have expressed their concerns over Bond becoming more reliant on other agents rather than working alone a-la Dr. No and From Russia With Love.
Would you like to see Miss Moneypenny in a bigger role? Get in touch and have your say! German film director Roland Emmerich has expressed his desire to direct a Bond film in the future. Known for his work on "2012" and "Independence Day", Emmerich was interviewed by Yahoo movies and said that he liked the new direction Mendes took with "Skyfall" and would like to give it a go. "Especially after the last one [Skyfall], because they've finally had the guts to go in different moods. I think a classic Bond film, no. But if they would let me do my Bond film the same way they let English director Sam Mendes do his Bond film, then that'd be interesting. Have a word with Barbara Broccoli when you get back." Emmerich was once considered to direct "Die Another Day" back in 2002 but he lost out to Lee Tamahori. Emmerich is spending his time on the sequel to "Independene Day", and not to mention Sam Mendes has already signed on to direct "Bond 24" in 2015.
And so it begins... a couple of days ago, BOND 24 was officially announced on 007.com and already tabloids are beginning to start rumours. We hope to lay a few of them to rest.
A recent report by The Sun claims that the title of the next James Bond movie will be 'Devil May Care'. The name derives from the continuation novel by Sebastian Faulks released in 2008. The novel received mixed to negative reviews and is highly unlikely that the story will be used. The titles used by EON have either come from an Ian Fleming novel or the screenwriters, therefore it is highly unlikely that they would use one this time. The producers would have to pay a hefty amount of royalties to use this title. Also in the news, claims that the character of Q will have a much larger part in the next instalment. According to the report, the gadget master played by Ben Whishaw will be assisting 007 in the field. It seems like early days yet for a brief story synopsis so surely they can't know yet. Plus, as far as reports go, John Logan hasn't quite finished writing the story yet. However, the way that Q was set up in Skyfall could lead to some humorous scenes that they could play with. Especially since Q is afraid of flying. It is unclear yet if Naomi Harris or Ben Whishaw are definitely going to feature in the next film. However both them and Ralph Fiennes are under contract with EON until Daniel Craig bows out. Craig still has another two films to go. Skyfall director Sam Mendes has recently been back in talks with the Bond producers for the next 007 film. But after three interviews, he reveals that he is still considering it. He told the BBC... "Well, I'm in discussions about it, but I've said to everyone involved that I'd like to open Charlie and the Chocolate Factory first before making any kind of final decisions. They've been very understanding about that. Frankly, I've had no time to talk about it let alone think about it because this has been a full time job for the last six months. It'll be nice to have some spare time again to think about things other than chocolate, children and Willy Wonka." In another interview with the Daily Telegraph, he told them... "I’ve said I’ll discuss the possibility of doing the next one. There are discussions ongoing but no decision will be made until after I’ve opened the show." And finally, to HeyUGuys... "In answer to the question you’re going to ask, I don’t know yet. I’m in discussion over the ‘B’ word and I won’t make any decision until this is open. It’s taken a long time to get this open and this has been my focus." In other news, Penelope Cruz has officially announced that has not been approached by the producers and doesn't wish to take part in Bond 24. Plus, Ben Whishaw turns down an opportunity to fulfillthe role of 'Doctor Who' in the series of the same name for fear of missing out on playing 'Q' in the next film.
Recent reports from the Daily Mail claims that Penelope Cruz is close to signing up as a Bond girl for BOND 24. ‘The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments. The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now' a 'source' told the paper. As well as this, Sam Mendes is rumoured to be back on track for Bond 24 according to Showbiz411 blog. "Sam Mendes is the definite director of Bond 24 and most likely Bond 25. He’s in, after exhaustive negotiations. Mendes obviously got what he wanted and will be a rich, rich man when his time with James Bond is over. The director of “American Beauty” did want to keep his theater career alive and will, even with the long planning for the Bond movies. But “Skyfall” was too much of a hit to let him go, and really no one else compared to him. Mendes and Daniel Craig will see “Bond” through to the end." If Mendes returns, it will be the first time since John Glen's "Licence To Kill" that a Bond film has been shot back-to-back with the same director. Christoher Nolan has always been considered to direct a Bond film since his huge hits with the Batman series. He also comments that the Bond films were his inspiration for the film 'Inception'. Recently reports from the Daily Mail have heard rumours that Nolan is in talks with the Bond producers to helm Bond 24. It seems unlikely because Nolan is already commited to the film 'Interstellar' scheduled for a November 2014 release date. The Daily Mail commented ‘It does no harm for Broccoli and Wilson to talk with Nolan, even if nothing happens this time round.’ Would you like to see Christopher Nolan direct Bond 24?
